“Bringing Back Community” is an Elijah’s House initiative to stop violence in Chicago communities through peaceful activities that improve interactions between urban youth and Chicago police officers. A Project active in its effort to rejuvenate community, “Bringing Back Community” has made it priority to help strengthen the trust and relationships between law enforcement agencies, urban youth and their communities. In essence “Bringing Back Community” is being utilized to re-engage youth to community, providing a sense of connectedness and creating solutions. In 2017, we made history when we initiated conversations that gave youth a sense of power and influence where they became part of a solution to create wellness and safety in their communities.
Now, on Monday, July 16th 2018, we are creating a sense of uniqueness by hosting a female volleyball game (involving female officers) with a focus on girls because as our Program youth have suggested “Girls get in trouble too”. The community is invited; free and food and refreshments will be served compliments of our junior chefs at Word Choice Café.
