Join The Woke & Winning Youth Action Summer Workshop Series for our next youth art and activism workshop! Each workshop introduces youth between the ages of 16-to-25 years old to various local and national organizations that use their platforms to promote gun reform. The second half of each workshop offers emerging artists a master art class with School of the Art Institute of Chicago graduate and international portrait artist, Liz Gomez, and a concluding Art-Making for Awareness studio project that is meant to connect participants to the broader community.

*Pre-Register at least 48 hours in advance to get a swag bag of GOODIES-To-GO*

Workshop Two: Gun Trafficking and Trauma with Mark Jones

This week we welcome Mark Jones, retired agent of the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco and Explosives (ATF). Mark will share with participants the role of the ATF in Chicago and Illinois, the current difficulties with enforcing gun reform laws in the city and state, and the critical impact of trauma on the lives of gun violence victims.

Art-Making for Awareness: Art as Healing

Art making is transformative in many ways. It can be used as a tool for communicating our ideas to the outside world. It can also serve as a tool of self-expression and healing. This week’s art activity, will entail each participant making their own version of a spiral symbol (i.e. labyrinth). This symbol represents a meditation on the life path. Like with life, each person’s artistic expression will be constructed differently — with different materials, words of wisdom, and actionable information relevant to their communities and gun violence prevention.
