The Terrell Bosley Anti-Violence Back to School Hoops for Peace Basketball Tournament and Community Carnival Event.

The peaceful event serves over 250 families and is growing annually due to so many families in need. The community outreach event provides a safe and fun atmosphere in the Chatham community for families. The basketball tournament is for boys and girls of all ages who reside in undeserved communities that are plagued by gun violence. The model of the basketball game teaches the importance of team work and allows young men and women to participate and release stress through athletics in an environment that is safe and nurturing.

Each event has resulted in a thriving audience and generally attracts more than 75 participants. In addition to learning the values of team play, friendship, and sportsmanship. Youth are provided with evidence-based positive youth development activities that include conflict resolution and avoidance and social life skills. Youth are also introduced to positive male and female role model speakers who discuss topics such as the importance of education, surrounding one’s self with positive peers, decision making and its impact on your life, and much more.

This year we anticipate serving about 200 youth and families by providing outdoor carnival games, bounce houses, giant slide, video game truck, face painting, nail polishing, pony rides, back to school supplies, free food, family fun, basketball shirts for participants, and so much more.
