Event Details

The Black Star Project’s Building Chicago’s Next CEO (BCNC) Institute will meet every Friday beginning June 29, 2018 and run through August 24, 2018.  (No session will be held during the 4th of July weekend.) Sessions will take place at Peace Makers Worldwide, 456 E. 79th Street (Chatham), Chicago, IL 60619.  The program will begin at 10:00 A.M. and end at 3:00 P.M.

A field trip will be the highlight of each weekly session.  After the field trips, sessions will begin with ice breakers and lesson openers where students will have a chance to debrief on the previous week’s field experience.  Prior to participating in a stock market game simulation, students will learn from facilitators how to choose stocks and EFTs.    Twice during the summer, students will have a chance to invest their stipends in actual stocks and ETFs using Etrade.  Students will watch a videos or play games related to investments or entrepreneurship and engage in discussions based on the video and/or activities.  Facilitators will teach entrepreneurship skills and students will have time to work on business plans.  Field trips include the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, City of Chicago Mayor’s Office and Cook County Treasurer, Maria Pappas’ office among other finance-related institutions.  In addition to the weekly field trips, students will engage with guest speakers and spend time shadowing executives and Chicago-area CEOs.
